Simple Semi-Homemade Halloween Costumes For Families with Boy Toddlers

Halloween is such a magical time for children. Growing up, my mom was a Pinterest mom before Pinterest was a thing. She literally sewed and made all of our Halloween costumes, and I will add she did some quality work as they are still in good condition to this day! While my mom is a creative genius, I am more of a semi-homemade type gal. So for Halloween, I purchase the cheap costumes and then add some homemade touches like ironed on shirts and painting on cardboard.

Unwrapping candy every year, Reid tells us exactly what he wants to be the following year and much to my surprise he sticks with it. Unwrapping last Halloween, he told us he wanted to be a police officer so when the costumes went on sale at Costco I picked one up immediately (even though it was August!). His little brother is going to be Chase, the police pup from Paw Patrol to go with the theme.

If you are like me and want to make Halloween as magical as possible, but you are not creative, then here are a few costume ideas that we have done from years past. Trust me, they are SUPER simple and while they won’t win any awards they are fun and cute enough to pass for a semi-homemade Mom 🙂

Pregnancy Halloween: Thing One, Thing Two, Thing Three (and our dog as Thing Four)

Infant Halloween: Clemson Tiger Football Player with Parents as Fans

One Year Old Halloween: Pumpkin Costume from Pottery Barn

Two Year Old/Infant Halloween: My personal favorite, Garbage Man with Crew (and Dog as Trash)

Three Year Old/One Year Old Halloween: Firefighter with Fire Dalmatian and Fire Fighting Crew

Four Year Old/Two Year Old Halloween: Police Officer with Paw Patrol Police Pup and Police Crew

The trick we do for our “crew” is iron on decals. I simply print out the design or decals I want and iron them on to blank t-shirts and hats. The whole thing costs under 20 dollars and is a great way to be involved with the kids on Halloween.

As for our wagon, my husband works in corrugated boxes so they custom design our wagon and we get to paint it. However, I think it would be simple enough to grab a big box and cut out a design and put some paint on it to add a fun addition 🙂

Hope you have a fun time planning for Halloween. And my money is on Reid telling us he wants to be a monster truck driver as he unwraps his candy this year!

Stay safe and healthy, friends 🙂
