Happy Holidays–Let the Season Begin!

I am soo happy that the holiday season has started!  It is the happiest time of the year.  After talking with various family members and friends–we really wanted to cut down a Christmas tree.  It was a family tradition that my mom and sister continue to this day–and even though I am miles away, I wanted to join in the tradition.  Since we live in South Carolina, I was pretty skeptical that we could find a place that wasn’t hours away to cut down a tree.

After researching cut your own Christmas Tree places in South Carolina–I was surprised to find a place only a few miles away! Drew and I ventured to the Christmas tree farm–which was adorable but unfortunately only had trees that looked like Christmas trees (not the fraiser fur style we prefer!).  Therefore, we went back to our tried and true (and cheap) version and got a tree from Costco.  It may be the luck of the draw–but you cannot beat the price tag!

Since this is our first Christmas as a married couple–we decided to start a few traditions of our own! After shopping at Total Wine (yes, you can totally shop at a wine store!), I was convinced by the pretty bottle, to try the first wine of the 2014 season.  The lady at the store informed me that it can be pretty sour, but the bottle was so cheerful that I had to try it out.  Surprisingly, it was not too bad–definitely not my favorite, but pretty cool to know that it comes from the first grapes of the season.  I paired the wine (even though it is red) with stuffed chicken and sauteed kale.  (Stuffed chicken is extremely easy–butterfly a chicken breast and season, stuff it with whatever you like, put toothpicks in it to secure and bake on 375 for about 30 minutes! Simple yet delicious)

Following dinner, we decorated the tree and set up the mantel.  We are all ready for our first Rankin Family Christmas 🙂
