January Beach Weekend

My wonderful husband turned the big 28 this past week.  Drew has a ton on his plate between school and work, so I wanted to make sure that even though he had work and class on his birthday–that he would still feel special on his day!  I fixed his requested meal (which we ate super late) and then opened his presents.  I bought him a Bose Soundlink III–it is a small but powerful sound system.  He has been wanting a sound system that we can take to the beach and on the boat–it does it all and is bluetooth powered!

It looks like Christmas all over again

The next night we stopped at his parents’ house to eat another birthday dinner and had cake to celebrate his day.  I fixed a lemon blueberry cake with buttercream icing.  It was a little dense, but the flavor was “dead on.”  We absolutely love that his mom and stepdad live so close to us as we got to spend some of his birthday with them!

For his birthday weekend, we decided to take a trip to his family’s beach house on Edisto Island–which is the place that we got engaged and is basically our favorite place on earth!  We invited a couple of our friends to come along (we talked about it over our New Years Eve trip and everyone was on board for another fun weekend).  The weather was amazing–and the sun actually came out!!  It has been extremely gray and bleak the past couple of weeks and seeing the sun shining was such a nice surprise.

I enjoyed a nice flat 6 mile run on Friday before everyone got to the house.  Over the weekend, we enjoyed delicious wine, great friends, long walks, fun games and beautiful sunsets.  We were all so sad to leave, but this short trip definitely made me look forward to the warmer summer weather!
