Life Lately: Last Summer Vacation to OBX

The summer is officially coming to an end–public schools in Greenville started this morning!  I can only imagine what a mess I will be in 5 years when I have to take little Reid in for his first day–but I have time before then 🙂

Nothing better than a naked baby

This past week, we took our last summer vacation to the Outer Banks in North Carolina.  The Outer Banks span a looong way and luckily we went to Pine Knoll Shores which is almost the southern most tip of OBX (only about a 6.5 hour drive).  Drew’s aunt and uncle have a vacation home there and were gracious hosts for our little family of 4, including Scout.

My loves

We had a great time going for morning jogs, clamming in the sound, going to the beach, swimming in the pool and enjoying a couple boat rides.  My favorite part was our day trip to Beaufort, North Carolina–it was about a 40 minute boat ride but worth every minute.  Beaufort is such a cute town, I am definitely making it a priority for next year to explore the town a little more!

Such a serious little man on vacation

Our trip gave me some time to reflect on where I am and where I would like to go with my life.  The past few months have been quite an adjustment and I have had little time to just sit and think.  I realized that I need to make some more time for myself.  So the things I am going to work on:

  1. Go on runs by myself (running with the stroller is amazing, but it doesn’t allow me to clear my head as I am constantly thinking about how Reid is doing)
  2. Start baking and cooking again (I love being in the kitchen, but priorities have shifted and cooking/baking has been on the back burner–time to switch it up!)

  3. Do one thing everyday for myself–be that buying flowers, taking 10 minutes to read a book instead of folding laundry, writing a blog post or enjoying a quiet glass of wine on the porch

  4. Do one thing everyday for Drew and Reid–like mowing the lawn, thanking Drew for his hard day of work and taking extra time to play with Reid

    Family time = Best time

I think that it is important for me to take time and reflect–it allows me to clear my head and refocus again.  Drew and Reid are the most important people in my life, but I need to remember that I am important too.  It is so easy to forget about yourself when you are in the thick of things, but a nice simple reminder every now and again helps!

Off to start my day with my little man 🙂
