BEST Things to Purchase from Costco: Top 15

Having a family to feed means that buying in bulk is the way to save money and Costco offers some amazing deals! I am breaking down the BEST purchases from Costco that you should utilize, if you have a membership.

BEST purchases from Costco:

  1. Pull-Ups/Diapers: This alone is worth the cost of a Costco membership. We currently use Pull-Ups “plus” from Costco which are perfect for night time use instead of the more expensive night time pull ups. Costco’s Huggies “plus” diapers were perfect night time diapers when the boys were younger (they hold so much more than traditional Huggies).
  2. Toilet Paper/Paper Towels: If you use it a bunch, you should probably buy it in bulk. We love the Kirkland Brand (Costco’s brand) paper towels and for the price they cannot be beat. I am a TP snob and love Charmin Ultra Soft which is a good price and last a long time (I am not a fan of the Kirkland TP, though I know many people do like it).
  3. Coffee/K Cups: The price on coffee at Costco cannot be beat. We love Starbucks, Peet’s and Charleston Coffee Roasters which are all available at our local Costco. I drink decaf and purchase Kirkland Organic K-Cups online for a fraction of the price at the grocery.
  4. Dairy (Cheddar Cheese/Cottage Cheese/Yogurt): My boys go through cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt so quickly that purchasing these items in bulk at Costco saves us lots of money. Their cheddar cheese is really delicious and they carry Daisy brand cottage cheese for under $4.
  5. Hummus/Salsa: The price on organic salsa and organic hummus cannot be beat. We always stock up on individual hummus cups when we go to Costco (my sons’ favorite and perfect for school lunches).
  6. Seasonal Fruit/Apples: Costco has the most delicious produce. I love their apples and seasonal fruit.
  7. Frozen Organic Vegetables/Fruit: If you have freezer space then stocking up on frozen veggies and fruit is the way to go. They have great prices on both!
  8. Peanut Butter/PB Powder: If you have littles then you probably make lots of PB&Js, my boys love JIF and a two pack is less than $10 (wait until August and it goes on sale even more!). If you like shakes/smoothies than you are probably familiar with PB powder. We get a huge container of it for the same price as a small container at the grocery store (bonus: it is on sale in January).
  9. Protein Bars/Granola Bars: Typically, Costco has a protein bar or granola bar package on sale–depending on what is on sale, we purchase them. These are great to have as snacks and for Drew to bring to work. The boys like them too (depending on what we purchase). I just bought a big box of Pure Protein for $15, a fraction of what you would pay at the grocery store!
  10. Apple Sauce Pouches: My boys love apple sauce and Kirkland brand is reasonably priced. If it is in stock and you have littles, I highly suggest trying it out.
  11. PJs for Kids/Levis or Orvis for Him: I browse the middle clothing section to see what deals they have. We typically get the boys’ pajamas from Costco and I buy Drew’s jeans there too. Our Costco carries seasonal Orvis clothing too, which is higher quality for men.
  12. Wine: Kirkland brand Sauvignon Blanc is currently unavailable, but is amazing when in stock. We buy our favorite brands at a couple dollars less than our regular Wine Shop.
  13. Tortillas: We go through tortillas in our house quickly–Taco Tuesday and lunches for the boys make these a hot comidoty. A huge double pack is $4 at Costco which is less than a small pack at the grocery store.
  14. Vitamins and Supplements: If you love a specific vitamin or supplement, chances are it will go on sale within the year and Costco is the perfect place to stock up. I purchase Drew’s allergy medicine in the fall or spring when it goes on sale and get an entire year’s supply for the same price as a small bottle at the drug store! Recently, I purchased Vital Proteins with a $6 off coupon making it under $25 for a huge container.
  15. Prepared Street Tacos: They have a lot of prepared foods like chicken soup, sandwich platters, shrimp and rotisserie chicken. Our favorite prepared food is the street tacos–they are delicious and last us for a couple meals!
  16. Gas! Whenever you stop in at Costco, make sure to fill up your tank–its the cheapest gas in town 🙂

I think I could go on and on with good purchases, but these are 15 items that you will NOT regret purchasing! We always end our Costco Trip with a hotdog and lemonade (for $1.50) and a slice of pizza to split for the boys. If it is a nice day, we bring our lunch to the “Costco park” and have a picnic–its always a special treat and makes my boys love to go shopping with me at Costco.
