• Best Podcasts for Stay at Home Moms

Y’all, I am obsessed with podcasts right now.  Being a stay at home mom, I crave “adult conversation” and using my brain.  I started listening to podcasts about a month ago and it has been such a game changer in my life.  Best part is they are FREE! My Top 5 Favorite Podcasts: Goal Digger by Jenna Kutcher.  The Goal Digger podcast is absolutely amazing.  Jenna makes you feel like she is your best friend and provides inspiring words in every episode.  She interviews amazing entrepreneurs, who provide valuable information and insight into their success. Jenna is candid and REAL which is refreshing. Shameless Mom Academy.  Shameless Mom Academy was…

  • Walker’s 4 Month Recap

Walker turned 4 months old this week and while it seems that he has been in our family forever, it is crazy how quickly time passes.  Walker changed so much in the past month and his personality is really starting to shine. This month, he rolled from his tummy to back and back to tummy.  He is very strong and determined to move if he wants something.  He started babbling and loves to smile.  Seriously, I cannot get over how genuinely smiley the little guy is! And he loves to put everything in his mouth.  At first, I thought he was teething and now I have realized he just loves chewing…

  • Vacation Recap: Fourth of July at Edisto Island, South Carolina

We just got back from an incredible 9 day vacation on Edisto Island, SC.  We had an amazing time hanging out with family and friends and of course, our little boys.  While we are definitely more sleep deprived than any other vacation we have ever had, we had a great time and cannot wait to go back soon.We are extremely lucky that Drew’s family has owned a beach house on Edisto for over 50 years.  It is such a special place that we all treasure and enjoy reconnecting with family and friends.  I started going to Edisto in college where our nights would be filled with going to Dockside and…

  • Life Lately: Living without Air Conditioning

Life is a little crazy over here!  Our downstairs AC stopped working on Friday afternoon, meaning that we spent the entire weekend without AC.  The past couple days we have been getting quotes for repairs and are eager to get our new unit next week. Seriously, living without AC with 90 degree days and two babies is no joke.  Luckily, we have AC upstairs and a leak we discovered is linked to the AC so we are counting our lucky stars and know it could be a lot worse!  We also learned how important it is to get numerous quotes, we would have spent a couple thousand more had we…

  • Motherhood Lessons: Failing at Sleep Training

Can I just rant for a second? Really…because lets be honest, somedays (like today) all I hear are cries, whining, yelling and “mommy, mommy, mom, mommy.”  Basically, my children are constantly letting out their emotions so let me do it for just.one.second. Please don’t get me wrong, my children are a true blessing and my favorite people on this planet…but they are also EXHAUSTING.  This season is beautiful and fun and messy and honestly sometimes just downright tiring.  Currently, I am running on 3 cups of coffee about to make another pot because my baby refuses to sleep.  I have read so so many parenting/sleep training books, and guess what?…

  • Father’s Day Weekend Recap: Visiting Waynesville, North Carolina

We had a great long Father’s Day weekend exploring Waynesville with Drew’s family.  We have a tradition of going to the mountains on Father’s Day weekend and again in the fall (usually one trip is tent camping).  Since we have a three month old, we stayed in a nice cabin on the top of a mountain that overlooked the valley.  It was amazing getting to sit in the hot tub with a glass of wine and enjoy the breathtaking view! On Friday morning, we went on a short 2.5 mile hike with both kids!  I wore Walker in the K’tan and Drew had Reid in the Ergo.  It was amazing…

  • Working Out with Newborn and Toddler

Working out is a necessity for my mental health.  Since law school, I have overcome stress and anxiety by running and working out.  Having a newborn and a 2 year old makes working out even more important as it allows me to be a more patient parent. Surprisingly, I was okay’ed to workout immediately following my hospital discharge.  With Reid I was instructed to wait until my 6 week appointment, but the physicians (and I got a second opinion) said that I could workout as soon as I felt up for it and just needed to listen to my body. My first run was about 2 weeks postpartum (Easter in…

  • Memorial Day Weekend: First Beach Vacation with Two Babies at Edisto Island

We enjoyed our first trip to the beach with our family of four over the extra long Memorial Day weekend.  It was an absolute blast hanging out with family and friends while having our babies enjoy the sand and water. It is crazy how much a year in toddlerhood changes.  Reid was walking and playing with his toy trucks last year and showed no interest in the water.  This year, Reid was running and jumping around and taking his trucks everywhere with him.  He was hesitant about the water, but eventually enjoyed going in it with his daddy. Walker was much like Reid was 2 years prior.  Walker enjoyed napping…

  • Motherhood Lessons: Surviving Colic

“This too shall pass” is what I have been reminding myself the first 8 weeks of Walker’s life.  Colic is no joke and has tested my patience in a way nothing else has in the past.  I know that it will pass and that my baby boy will be a sweet, happy little guy soon. There is no scientific or medical explanation for colic which makes the process even more stressful.  I am a type-A person that likes things ‘cut and dry’ and get frustrated when you tell me that there is no right answer or explanation (such is parenthood).  So when the doctor told me that Walker had colic…

  • Motherhood Lessons: First 6 Weeks Postpartum

The first two weeks postpartum are a complete blur, followed by moments of uncertainty and being overwhelmed but filled with an outpouring of love and joy.  These first few weeks test you but in the end you become a stronger, more confident, patient parent and person. We welcomed Walker William into the world 6 weeks ago.  He is a beautiful and healthy baby boy with a full head of black hair.  He is the spitting image of his brother (just with a little more hair).  He is a “survivor” as he has had to deal with colic, gas, a rash, an unsure big brother and a mom that drinks too…
