Davidson River Campground Trip and Oskar Blues Brewery

Happy Monday!

This weekend, I went on a camping trip with Drew’s family.  They go camping twice a year–once in the spring/summer and once in the fall.  This trip we went to the Davidson River Campground near Brevard, North Carolina.  We ate a lot, drank, napped (amazing!), investigated the farmers market, floated/tubed down the river, went on a couple amazing runs through the woods and enjoyed each other’s company.  It was a great time spent with his family 🙂

If you would have asked me 3 years ago if I would enjoy camping the answer most definitely would have been no!  Growing up my family never went camping–we are not outdoorsy in the least.  However, my husband’s family loves being outside and loves camping.  Drew is an eagle scout so camping was a monthly activity for him and his troop growing up.  For me, it was completely foreign and to this day it is still a little out of my comfort zone.

I am getting better at being a camper, but I will admit to liking my comforts of home.  As this was my 5th camping trip, I have discovered what I need in order to enjoy the camping experience:

  1. An aerobed (yes, we blew up a mattress–hooked perfectly into the car outlet),
  2. A ton of bug spray/thermacel lantern,
  3. A comfortable pillow,
  4. Chacos (or sandals that can be used as shower shoes and river shoes) and
  5. Wine (a lot of it).

We finished off the weekend and celebrated Father’s Day at Oskar Blues.  Oskar Blues is a brewery that makes beers including Dales Pale Ale.  The brewery is very impressive and has a great outdoor space that overlooks the mountains.  We played on the tricycles (yes, acted like children), ate huge burgers from the food truck and enjoyed different delicious beers.  It was the perfect ending of our camping experience.
