Fourth of July Weekend Recap: Family Fun with Friends and Fireworks
We had such a fun long Fourth of July weekend. It was the first time in months that we had visitors–and I have to say, I miss having guests! Drew’s best friend, Jake and his wife and kids came to visit. Reid and their oldest son are quickly becoming best buds, just like their daddys 🙂
They got in late Thursday evening which allowed us to have a full day on Friday. We ventured to the pool that afternoon, followed by nap time and a quiet evening chatting and eating homemade pizza (Drew’s latest obsession, which I secretly love!). We woke up on Saturday morning and ventured back to the pool for some fun before the Fourth of July festitivies.
Our neighborhood puts on a great Fourth of July celebration filled with a parade, big dad splash contest, a neighborhood cookout and a huge firework show. With the pandemic, things were a little abridged but still a fantastic time!!
We ended up having a small cookout with some of our neighbors (literally spur of the moment, everyone brought over what they were planning on eating and we had a little get together!). It was so fun having the kids play in the backyard and being able to share a drink with friends. Following dinner, we all headed to our neighborhood’s dam to watch the firework show!
We tested out fireworks on Friday evening with the boys to see how they would do–honestly, Walker wanted inside the house the whole time, but we decided to give it a go and figured worst case we would just leave. Well my friends, it took a little while but both of my boys did great!! We put earphones on them (what we use at monster jam) and it made them less scared and protected their ears. It was so magical seeing fireworks with my boys for the first time!
I was blown away at the firework show our neighborhood put on. I thought it was the finale probably 5 times and the show kept going 🙂 I think everyone was very impressed!
On Sunday, we were all super sad to say goodbye to Jake and Tess. After saying our goodbyes, we had a little downtime before heading back to the pool for an evening swim. It was the perfect little ending to our Fourth of July weekend.
We had a blast spending time with our close friends and celebrating our Nation’s birthday. I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend!
