Spring Break in Atlanta: Adventures with Preschoolers

The past week, we stayed in Atlanta for spring break and had mini adventures around town. Since the boys were out of school, we got to go on mini adventures around town that we generally don’t get to do since Reid is in school 5 days a week. My mom was in town which made our adventures even more special.

The Thursday before break, I took Reid out of school (perks of preschool!), and we ventured to the Children’s Museum in Downtown Atlanta. We have not been to the Children’s Museum as Covid made me very wary of going to a hands on museum, so it was very special being able to enjoy a morning there. The boys loved it and already asked to go back! Reid loved climbing up a two story tower and Walker enjoyed playing in the kitchen/grocery store and the Peter Rabbit exhibit. Following the Museum, we went to Waffle House–it was the boys’ first time there and it did not disappoint. Since Waffle House was founded in Atlanta, it seemed like a perfect place to go. Both boys devoured their waffles. Following Waffle House, we spotted the ferris wheel and Nana treated us to a ride. It was so fun to see the city from a ferris wheel and the boys had a blast!! It is so much fun being a tourist in your own town, the perks of having guests means you venture out more than normal.

The next week, we went on a couple more mini adventures. Monday of break, we had a playdate at Mabry Park. It is one of our favorite parks in the area with turf and plenty of shade (making it perfect for even the littlest ones!). I love spending time with the boys in nature and we went on a small hike around the park to finish up our time. On Tuesday, we went to Empire Kids in Marietta. I took Walker there when Reid was in school and he got to ride a motorcycle, so, of course, Reid has been begging to go too. Empire Kids did not disappoint and the boys spent over two hours playing and running around. I even went on a few slide rides, played soccer and chased them around the park. It was a great day and a perfect place to go on a rainy day!

My mom arrived back in town on Tuesday evening and was not feeling well, so we took it easy on Wednesday and went to another kid’s play place. Basically, my kids were in heaven being able to go to so many indoor play places! We ventured to Ready, Set, Fun in Sandy Springs on Wednesday afternoon. While it is geared towards younger kids (best ages 2-5), both boys had a blast and especially enjoyed seeing their color pictures come to life. It is a very clean place with a lot to do and perfect for another rainy day.

On Thursday, we planned to go to the Fernbank but my mom was not feeling well so we decided to organize the playroom and I took advantage of having a helping hand and went on my long training run. We went to Mexican that night and all enjoyed having a night out. The boys loved having Nana in town and it is always a special treat to have my mom around. The boys had a blast at Monster Jam on Saturday night (the highlight of Reid’s spring break) and we finished the weekend with an Easter egg hunt in our neighborhood. It was a great “staycation” and we all made lasting memories.

What is your favorite thing to do during a “staycation”?

Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter week!
