Top Recommendations in Jackson Hole for Family Vacation
We just got back from a week long vacation to visit my mom in Jackson Hole. We have been to Jackson 3 times in the past 10 months, but this was the first time we took our boys. They were so excited to see Nana’s house and explore the “Wild West.” While completely different than a vacation without kids, this trip definitely lived up to all of our expectations. We are excited to take them back in 2022.
We went Saturday to Saturday, and y’all that is a game changer. Having the extra day at home (Sunday) before getting back into the swing of life makes a HUGE difference. I highly recommend it and know we will be doing that for future travel, especially with time changes.
After arriving, we straight went to Dornan’s, a restaurant not too far from the Airport in Moose, WY. They have great pizzas and the view of the Snake River is amazing. On Sunday, we took the day to explore town and introduce the boys to Jackson’s Square. Most of the shops and restaurants in downtown Jackson Hole are around the square. We took the boys on the Stagecoach (my mom swears its the most touristy thing you can do, but the boys LOVED it). Following our adventure, we did a little bit of shopping and of course took the boys to Teton Toys. A few of our other favorite shops: Skinny Skis, Backcountry Outfitters, Lee’s Tees and Headwall (outside of town). Following shopping, mom took the boys home so Drew and I had a mini day date at Roadhouse before walking back to mom’s.
Monday morning was a little dreary, so we planned to go around Grand Teton National Park…but ended up driving the 1.5 hours to Yellowstone National Park. It was so much fun and a good spur of the moment trip. We got to Old Faithful right as she was erupting. We ventured around the hotspots and walked along the paths around Old Faithful. Since we had the Chuckwagon reservations that night, we kept our trip a little shorter but still covered a lot of ground. Such a cool experience!
Monday night, we went on Bar-T-5’s Chuckwagon tour (another touristy thing according to mom ha!). It was a lot of fun and we ate dinner while watching a show of cowboys and outlaws. On Tuesday, we went to Snow King Mountain to play putt putt golf and Drew and Reid went on the roller coaster. We all had a great time and the boys kept asking to go back! Tuesday evening, Drew and I went on a date of a hike up Snow King Mountain and dinner at Snake River Brewery. It was seriously my ideal date–a little outdoor activity followed by good food and drink!
Wednesday, Drew went mountain biking in Teton Village. He LOVED it. I am pretty sure he will be letting us come back in the summer so he can do it again! The boys and I playground hopped (there are a lot of good playgrounds around town and one in Teton Village) and did a little shopping before seeing Drew finish his ride. Thursday was one of my favorite days as we hiked around Jenny Lake in Teton National Park. If you do this hike, make sure you get there early (8-9am) so you get a parking spot. On our hike we saw a bunch of wildlife and Walker even had a chipmunk crawl all over him trying to get his granola bar!! It was a memorable hike for sure!
Drew and I went on a date Thursday night to Gather and sat outside. It was a very enjoyable meal and awesome to sneak away for a few hours while mom babysat. We finished our date getting sloshy’s to go at Bud’s, definitely worth a try if thats your thing!
We finished our trip riding bikes through Grand Teton National Park (rented a bike and tow behind from Snow King), touring the National Fish Hatchery, eating lunch by the creek (Creekside Deli is amazing, a local’s favorite!) and playing in the park near my mom’s house. It was a perfect Friday and ending to our fun filled vacation out west.
It is such a beautiful part of the country and I am so grateful our boys were able to experience it and so thankful that my mom is willing to host us as frequent visitors! We cannot wait to go back next year 🙂
