Weekend Update: Edisto Island for the Fourth of July

Today I am linking up with Tara for Weekend Update.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend.  I went to Edisto Island with a couple close friends for a great long weekend of fun in the sun!  Drew’s family has a beach house on Edisto Island that we have been going to for years.  We usually invite our close friends, Megan and Brandon to join us when we go down to Edisto.  Over the years, it has become a tradition to go to the beach house for the Fourth of July!

Nothing like back porch sitting with a glass of wine 🙂

We got to the Island around 6:00 on Thursday afternoon.  Luckily, we were able to leave Greenville earlier than expected and missed the traffic (yayy!).  Brandon and Megan landed at the house shortly after us.  Around 7:30, it started to torrential down pour with severe wind.  One would think that it was hurricane season! We lost power in the house for few hours and spent the majority of the evening hanging out in the dark (power got restored around 12:15 at night!).

Stormy days–that flag didn’t make it!

Friday morning, the boys went fishing and I went for a nice 6 mile run around the Island.  Edisto is my favorite place to run as it is flat!  Everyone on Edisto is extremely friendly and it is great saying hello to many people when running.  A brown lab ended up following Scout and I for about a mile–I eventually found the house where the dog was staying (luckily, as the dog didn’t have an ID tag–a tad irresponsible if you ask me!).  We hit the beach on Friday and enjoyed the sunny weather.  Around 3 in the afternoon, it started to storm again.  Seriously, one would think it was hurricane season!  We all enjoyed some coffee and chatted while waiting for the storm to pass.

Our set up for the weekend

On Friday night, per our usual tradition, we went to Dockside Bar.  Dockside is one of the two bars on Edisto Island and always is filled with the most unique crowd.  In college, we loved going to the bar and hanging out for cheap drinks and dancing.  Now, we really enjoy people watching and having a more relaxed time watching all the ridiculousness. Oh, how times have changed ha!

On the Fourth of July, Drew and I went on a quick 2.5 mile run with Scout.  It was fun watching all the little kids with their decked out bikes and golf carts with American flags go by on our run (we assume there was a parade?!).  We spent the majority of the day laying out on the beach with mimosas/sangria in hand!  On Saturday night, things got heated with a few intense games of Jenga (Drew literally lost everytime ha!).  It was the perfect way to celebrate the Fourth of July!

Yesterday, we enjoyed the beach for a couple of hours before packing up and heading back home.  We stopped at King’s Market on the way out and picked up some fresh okra and crab dip–a must if you ever go to Edisto Island. It is about the saddest thing packing up and leaving Edisto, but I am happy that we will be back in about a month for an entire week 🙂  Cannot wait!
