Fun-Filled Long Weekend Staycation in Atlanta

Happy Summer!! Memorial Day Weekend is always a fun time as it kicks off the start of summer. Our anniversary sometimes falls on the weekend making it even an even more special time. This year, we had original plans to head to a parents getaway in Helen, GA but plans changed and we ended up having a wonderful weekend at home exploring our town!

Friday evening, we went to the Atlanta Braves game. Y’all I cannot tell you how much fun it is to enjoy watching your kids watch America’s sport. The boys loved running in the play area, snacking on hotdogs, chips, popcorn and ice cream! Pretty sure their favorite part was seeing all the yummy food haha! It was the perfect way to kick off the start of summer. Some tips for going to the game: arrive early so the kids can play and explore, pack waters and snacks for the kids in a clear bag, keep expectations low for staying for the entire game, and bring a sharpie/glove for signatures (we haven’t done this yet, but will probably do it next time).

Saturday, Drew and I got in great workouts–I opted for a 6 mile run which felt amazing! Following lunch, we hit up our neighborhood pool for the afternoon. Drew and I went on our anniversary date to Vin 25 in Roswell, Georgia. It is such a quant spot with delicious food and wine. They always have live music that isn’t overpowering and the side street is quiet and shady. It is one of our favorite spots! Following dinner, we walked around town (with drink in hand) and ventured into a bar for a nightcap before heading home. It was the perfect date and was very fun to be out and celebrate 8 years of marriage 🙂

Sunday morning, we took the boat out for the day. After years of boating, it is pretty much a science of what/how to pack for the day. I highly recommend packing wraps, tortillas, and chicken salad; along with plenty of chips, snacks that can’t melt and water. Since it was a holiday weekend, we made sure to get out early to avoid issues at the boat ramp. It was a blast to get out on the water. We played on the lily pad and at the beach and Reid and Drew took a nap for a period of time. It was a great family adventure and fun to be out on the water again.

We ventured out on our inflatable stand up paddle boards on Monday morning for a paddle on the Chattahootchee River. We live 2 miles from access to the river and were able to find parking and put in for a few hour adventure along the river. The boys are at the ages where they feel comfortable sitting on the top of our boards while we paddle and explore. I was amazed to see how many inlets with large lakes there are so close to the river. It really is super peaceful and beautiful to explore by paddle board. The boys had a blast and are already asking to go back and explore by paddle again.

Following our paddle, we grilled out and enjoyed drinks on our back patio before settling in to watch Cars with the boys. It was the perfect weekend with beautiful weather and lots of family time. I am excited for the start of our summer and the adventures to come!
