Hosting the Best Baby Shower for Teacher

It is hard to believe that there is only a semester left of school! The beginning of the school year, we found out that Reid’s teacher was expecting her second child. While it was very exciting for her growing family and such a joyous announcement, it leaves parents a little uneasy and disappointed knowing that the teacher their children have grown to love will be leaving before the end of the school year. Luckily for Reid, the teacher who is subbing is extremely nice and experienced which will make the transition (hopefully) smoother for his class!

In order to celebrate his beloved teacher, we threw a class baby shower for her filled with cupcakes, balloons and a fun baby game. The best part of the party was when his teacher opened up her gift from the class which was an ABC book made by the entire class. It was so sweet seeing her reaction and having all the kids want to see their own pages.

Ideas for baby shower for teachers:

  1. ABC book. One of my good friends told me about this and I excitedly took the advice. I purchased an ABC book off of Etsy along with coloring pages and blank abc pages for the students to color on their own and to color in the picture. Since they are in kindergarten it was cute to see their drawings and how they thought to spell certain words, but also nice to have a coloring sheet with actual drawings and words spelled correctly. I asked the assistant teacher if I could go in to do a “special project” with the class and helped the students come up with ideas. They were so fun and cute to help!
    • Note: to save money, I bought a laminator from Amazon and laminating sheets (total cost was $35 and I will use the laminator for years to come!), I laminated the pages together to make the book and then went to Office Depot to have the book bound for around $6 (if you laminate the pages there is will run you around 2.50 a page!). While it definitely took more time, it was worth it to save money. Note: I had Office Depot print on heavy card stock the first and last page of the book to make it more “book” like.
  2. Balloon signature page. One of my favorite parts of the book was the last page where all of the students signed individual circles to make up a bunch of balloons. It was a cute and fun way to end the book and fun to see all the kids’ individual signatures.
  3. Gift card. Y’all as a mom, all I can think of when anyone has a baby is AMAZON. While I love Target and even Walmart, when it comes to convince and super quick delivery Amazon is it for our area. With the funds from the class, we gifted her with a gift card to Amazon.
  4. Bingo. We played a simple game of “baby bingo” purchased off of Etsy that was printed and laminated. We had a couple little prizes for the winners and it was a fun way to play the game. Bonus: the markers for the bingo cards were edible hearts which the kids enjoyed eating!
  5. Cupcakes, Decorations and Drinks. We asked the assistant teacher the best time to have the party which was right after lunch. For the kids, we ordered custom cupcakes with baby blue icing and white sprinkles from Publix along with some lemonade. The cupcakes were so pretty and delicious too! I purchased some baby themed plates and napkins from the dollar store to complete the set up.
  6. Flowers and balloons. While at the dollar store I grabbed a couple balloons to tie around the vase of the flowers. I got blue hydrangeas and white tulips from Trader Joes and placed them in a vase that I had spray painted baby blue along with a blue ribbon to hide the balloon strings. The flowers turned out beautiful and are a pretty treat for any expectant mama.

All and all, the party and gifts took some time, but it was all worth it to see the excitement of the children along with the gratitude of their wonderful teacher. I am so thankful for his generous class and excited for his teacher to have her second boy! While we will definitely miss her smiling face, it was so fun to celebrate her and send her off with all the love from his sweet class 🙂

Sending love,

Cody
